ZETA CEO, José Ignacio Gaona, Joins Nuclear Matters Advocacy Council to Represent Gen-Z in National Energy Work

WASHINGTON, D.C. – José Ignacio Gaona, President & CEO of ZETA (Gen-Z Emerging Technology Action), has joined the Nuclear Matters Advocacy Council. As the leader of the nation’s premier Gen-Z centered technology and policy organization, José joins the Council to ensure that the next generation of digital leaders has a decisive voice in the future of American carbon-free energy.
The appointment comes at a critical juncture for both the energy sector and the tech industry. As Gen-Z drives the rapid expansion of AI, cybersecurity, and global digital infrastructure, the demand for reliable, 24/7 power is skyrocketing. Recent projections suggest that data centers alone could consume 9% of total U.S. electricity by 2030, making the role of nuclear energy more vital than ever to a carbon-free grid. Currently, nuclear reactors across the United States power tens of millions of homes and provide the country’s largest source of carbon-free electricity.
"I am honored to join the Nuclear Matters Advocacy Council on behalf of ZETA and our community," said José Ignacio Gaona. "For our generation, the digital age isn't an abstract concept, it’s our growing reality. But that reality requires an immense amount of power, and we do not want to compromise our vision for a clean and reliable energy grid. To build the future we want, we need a grid that is as innovative and resilient as the technology we’re creating. Nuclear energy is the carbon-free backbone that makes that possible."
Under José’s leadership, ZETA has become a national force in tech and energy advocacy, engaging over 200,000 learners monthly across digital platforms. The organization has successfully mobilized hundreds of young advocates to engage directly with congressional offices, federal agencies, and industry.
By joining the Council, José aims to bridge the gap between industry experts, policymakers, and the young voices that will ultimately manage and benefit from the new generation of nuclear. His focus will center on:
Digital Infrastructure: Aligning nuclear energy growth with the massive power demands of AI and emerging technologies such as Physical AI.
Workforce Development: Ensuring Gen-Z has clear career pathways into the nuclear and clean energy sectors as the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) projects that the nuclear energy sector will require over 375,000 additional skilled workers by 2050 to support the construction and operation of new advanced reactors.
National Education: Continuing ZETA’s work to move the conversation beyond old stigmas and toward data-driven energy solutions. This involves utilizing classroom resources to make nuclear science accessible and exciting for students of all ages.
"Our generation is 'pro-solution,'" José added. "We aren't just looking for climate goals on paper; we are looking for a tangible energy infrastructure that allows us to innovate without compromise."
