Meet Mateo Pierce-Mosquera (he/him), a Colombian American trailblazer native to Chicago and ZETA’s Board Chair. With a deep-rooted commitment to advocating for the Hispanic small business community, Mateo brings his passion for policy, leadership, and inclusivity to ZETA’s mission of empowering Gen Z in technology.
Currently serving as a Legislative and Public Affairs Associate at the United States Hispanic Business Council, Mateo champions critical issues that shape the landscape for small businesses, with a focus on sectors like technology, energy, infrastructure, immigration, finance, and agriculture. His work helps pave the way for economic growth and technological advancement in underrepresented communities.
A Rising Star in Policy & Advocacy
Mateo’s academic journey led him to the University of South Carolina, where he earned his B.A. in Political Science and Global Studies in 2021, followed by a Master of Professional Studies in Legislative Affairs from George Washington University in 2024. His experience in Washington, D.C., includes legislative internships with Congressman Henry Cuellar (D-TX) and Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), where he honed his skills in federal policy-making.
During his tenure as a Policy and Legislation Fellow at the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), Mateo monitored and analyzed federal legislation impacting Latino Americans. His leadership extends to local politics, having served as Field Director for Aditi Bussells’ Columbia City Council campaign, which resulted in the election of the first Asian American to local office in South Carolina.
A Passion for Digital Inclusion and Policy Reform
Mateo’s drive to make a difference aligns perfectly with ZETA’s core initiatives, especially in the realms of economic opportunities in the digital economy, AI as a positive tool, and expanding digital access. He emphasizes the importance of ensuring Gen Z is at the table when decisions are made in both Silicon Valley and Capitol Hill.
"We need solutions, from Silicon Valley to Capitol Hill, to ensure the United States remains the leader in digital technology," Mateo asserts. He is particularly passionate about promoting workforce development, ensuring internet access for all, and combating misinformation in the age of social media.
Commitment to ZETA’s Mission
Mateo is excited to collaborate with our organization, to ensure ZETA continues to unite, empower, and mobilize Gen Z in the technology space. His leadership is instrumental in ZETA’s mission to advocate for tech policy reform and ethical AI development, ensuring that young voices are heard in the digital future.
When he’s not shaping tech policy, you’ll find Mateo enjoying Star Wars, Peaky Blinders, and spending time with his dog, Mari. He’s also a fan of President Abraham Lincoln, often quoting him: "Half finished work generally proves to be labor lost."
